What to Expect When We Handle Your Case

At the Stapleton Law Office, we often first talk with potential clients over the phone. If it sounds like we might be able to help you with a personal injury, criminal defense or other legal matter, we will then schedule a free initial consultation at our Rogersville, Tennessee, law office or in Morristown Tennessee.

We recognize that some people, especially the victims of serious personal injury, have difficulty getting around. For that reason, home and hospital visits may be arranged. We also offer some evening hours by appointment. We will make every effort to accommodate you, our client.

Your Free Initial Consultation

In your free initial consultation, we begin by listening. What happened? Who was involved? What outcome are you seeking? We often explain that we start off as students and then take a teacher's role. We learn as much about you and your case as possible, so that we can start taking the steps necessary to take your case and to present it to a judge or jury. In addition we realize mediation plays such a large role in our current judicial system that we immediately begin gathering and securing evidence and information for mediation. Not all cases go to trial, so whatever resolution process results, we will be prepared.

We will then talk with you about the legal system and the process of filing or defending a lawsuit. Our goal is to help you leave our offices smarter than when you came in, so that you won't feel as intimidated by the legal system and so you can feel confident about the progress of your case.

Trial lawyer Mark Stapleton can also answer any questions you may have about your case. People often wonder how long it will take to reach a resolution. They worry about the stress of going to trial or the possible outcomes of their cases. We can answer these questions.

Preparing Your Case for Trial

When you retain our firm, we will begin preparing your case for mediation and trial. We will probably have you sign a representation agreement and a release, allowing us to access information about your case. That way, you can turn the burden of your case over to your attorney and relax, knowing that we will handle everything.

One of the keys to success in litigation is case preparation. The sooner we are retained, the more productive we can be. At the Stapleton Law Office, we prepare cases for trial — even though most settle before reaching the courtroom. This thorough preparation is one of the things that helps us achieve the best possible results. Even if we settle your case before trial, our adversaries know that we are ready to go to trial and win.

While we prepare your case, you can focus on other important things. In personal injury cases, we monitor healthcare that is being provided. We make sure that you are getting the healthcare, services and second opinions available to you. When medical care ends, we heat up the legal side of the case.

During this time, we ask that you do not give statements over the phone to someone you've never met. We recommend that you keep your case private between you and your closest family members.
