Chain reaction car accident in Tennessee set off by road rage

Tennessee commuters found themselves in a seven-car pileup after two drivers stopped their cars in a travel lane of Interstate 24 to fling road rage venom at each other. The aftermath of the car accident shut down the traffic corridor throughout the morning rush hour. Police charged the two men with a variety of offenses that they said caused the chain reaction accident.

Two drivers, ages 43 and 53, reportedly stopped their cars, a Honda Civic and a Honda Pilot, in the travel lanes of I-24 in Rutherford County at about 6 a.m. This was following an apparent undisclosed inciting action committed by one or both of the drivers that caused both men's tempers to flare. Police charged the 43-year-old with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, following too closely and failure to exercise due care. The 53-year-old was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, failure to exercise due care and obstructing a roadway.

Five other cars reportedly then crashed into the two stopped vehicles. One person was injured, a 39-year-old woman who was rushed by ambulance to Stonecrest Medical Center. Gridlocked traffic stretched back for miles along the I-24 corridor as the cleanup progressed, gradually being by opened a lane or two throughout the morning. It was after 8 a.m. that crews finally cleared the entire road, but traffic remained at a crawl for a portion of the morning as the traffic backup unsnarled.

Even the most careful driver can end up a car accident victim due to the foolishness of other people on the road. An attorney experienced in helping people after a car accident injury may be able to assist those hurt in a crash in arranging compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses and other damages.
