Pran turmeric powder found to contain high levels of lead

Residents of Tennessee may be interested to learn about a recent product recall. After discovering high levels of lead in Pran turmeric powder, Fahman Enterprises Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of the spice. The contaminated products were identified when the Food and Drug Administration conducted a sampling and the results reportedly showed that the product contained 48 ppm of lead.

Although no complaints were reported concerning the dangerous products, a release by the FDA stated that as lead accumulates in the body, it can lead to learning deficiencies and delays in growth. Pregnant women, babies and young children are the people most at risk of health complications resulting from exposure. If a person suspects that they or their children are suffering from high levels of lead in their blood, the FDA suggests that they seek the help of a physician.

The contaminated product was sold in 400g quantities and packaged in a flexible transparent plastic bag. The bar code on the product is 8-3173000502-3, and the "best before" date was listed as Jan. 25, 2015. The product was sold in stores between July and September of this year.

If an individual is injured by a defective product, they may be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit against the product's manufacturer. A lawyer who works with victims affected by dangerous products may be able to build a case that places liability on a company, particularly if it was aware that it was putting a defective or dangerous product on the market for potentially large numbers of people to consume. The lawyer might use a history of FDA recalls or similar evidence in negotiations for a settlement that covers any harm and expenses that result from the use of the product.
