2 men killed in Tennessee crash

One woman was injured and two men killed in a car accident along I-40 in West Knoxville. A couple was stranded on the side of the road with car trouble when a 20-year-old man pulled over to offer assistance. At this point, a third car allegedly crashed into the three victims.

According to reports, a car driven by another man hit the three of them and critically injured the 20-year-old woman. She was transferred to UT Medical Center with two broken legs, broken ribs, lacerations and other injuries. The man who reportedly hit them, also a 20-year-old male, faces a number of charges including vehicular homicide.

Friends and family of the couple have set up a memorial site where the accident occurred. They also held a car show fundraiser to help raise money for the affected families.

The families of the deceased may face a number of expenses including funeral costs and pain and suffering. They may wish to pursue further litigation in order to obtain some compensation. Although the man who is being held at fault faces a number of criminal charges, the results of a civil suit would not rest on the outcome in the criminal case and would focus on driver negligence.

If the man in this case who struck the pedestrians was driving under the influence or simply driving recklessly, he may likely be convicted of the offenses. Depending on the circumstances of a case, families may be able to recoup costs from the responsible individual for medical bills and lost income.
