Tennessee motorcyclist killed in accident

One motorcyclist is dead and another seriously injured in a crash on Barfield road that occurred on Sept. 13. According to a representative of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver of a Mercedes allegedly failed to yield right of way, causing the fatal crash.

Accident reports say that a 38-year-old Murfreesboro resident who was driving a 2012 Suzuki died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash at Vanderbilt Medical Center on Sept. 18. His wife, a passenger on the motorcycle, was transported by helicopter to the same facility and underwent surgery. The 21-year-old driver of the Mercedes and a 22-year-old passenger were both uninjured in the accident.

Reports suggest that he crash happened when the driver the Mercedes, traveling south on Barfield Road, stopped at a stop sign then turned left onto Veterans Parkway without yielding to the oncoming motorcycle. According to authorities, the Suzuki had the right of way, and the Mercedes driver was charged with a failure to yield violation.

Drivers have a responsibility of knowing and obeying the rules of the road. When they breach this responsibility, they may cause a fatal accident as happened in this case. The dependents of a driver who was killed in a crash may suffer a number of financial burdens after the incident. For example, the cost of funeral services can be high, and the loss of the decedent's income can exacerbate the burden. However, the dependents may seek compensation through a wrongful death suit that is filed against a driver who might have caused the crash.

An attorney could help a family who lost a loved one in an accident by reviewing police records and accident reconstruction reports in an effort to determine the negligence and liability. The attorney may also offer guidance in filing a wrongful death suit in civil court.
