Effects of a traumatic brain injury

Some people in Tennessee may suffer from a traumatic brain injury after their head sustains any kind of blow. This type of injury occurs suddenly and violently, and the symptoms of a TBI can range from mild to severe. Depending on how serious the injury is, the victim may stay conscious or lose consciousness for as long as a few minutes.

Even a mild TBI can result in the victim suffering from numerous symptoms. Some possible symptoms of a TBI are dizziness, headaches, blurred vision and difficulty concentrating. A moderate or severe TBI could cause more symptoms like a headache that gets worse over time, slurred speech, seizures and agitation.

After a car accident or other event that has resulted in a TBI, the injured victim should seek immediate medical treatment. Medical personnel may be able to use treatments that will help to stabilize the person and prevent further injury. Patients who have suffered from a severe head injury might also require surgery. About half of all patients who have sustained a severe head injury need surgery for ruptured blood vessels or bruised brain tissue.

Although the long-term effects of TBI vary greatly, many people experience changes in their mental health and cognitive functioning. These changes can result in a decreased quality of life and the loss of earning potential. If the TBI was caused by another party’s negligence, the victim has the right to file a claim for compensation. A personal injury attorney may be able to their client gather all of the necessary evidence to establish the extent of the financial impact that the injury has caused them.
